In response to two reports issued by the Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility, the University Senate voted on March 26th, 2026 to establish an ad hoc committee charged with developing concrete recommendations for revisions to university policy. The committee’s work shall be grounded in the protection of academic freedom and shared governance while ensuring statutory compliance, but not over-compliance, with SB 1.
The committee, which shall include both faculty and relevant campus administrators, shall:
- Review existing policy language and SB1 implementation guidance;
- Identify areas in need of clarification or revision
- Submit proposed revised language and other recommendations to Faculty Council for consideration by Fall 2026.
