Faculty Athletics Representative

Call for Nominations

The Athletic Council has established a Search Committee to identify and recommend candidates to serve as The Ohio State University’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) to the Big Ten Conference and NCAA. The FAR plays a vital role in representing the faculty voice in intercollegiate athletics by:

  • Upholding the academic integrity of the athletics program
  • Monitoring and advocating for the student-athlete experience
  • Ensuring institutional compliance with NCAA, Big Ten regulations, and the College Sports Commission
  • Advising the University President and Athletic Director on matters of student-athlete welfare and academic policy.

The next FAR will begin a one-year transition period on July 1, 2026, shadowing the current FAR before assuming full responsibilities on July 1, 2027, for a four-year term. Compensation details will be finalized in consultation with the President’s Office. Nominations are open to all tenured faculty members; full professors are preferred.

We encourage both self-nominations and nominations of colleagues.  Please see details and qualifications in the attached Call for Nominations.

Please submit all nomination materials as a single .pdf file via email to Ivy Hammond, University Senate Office, hammond.707@osu.edu, no later than 6 p.m. Jan. 5, 2026. Finalist interviews will be conducted in early March.

This committee, in conjunction with the Ohio State Athletics Council, will send President Carter in April two outstanding candidates. He will then select the next Faculty Athletics Representative to serve the university with distinction.
